Arsenal welcome PSV Eindhoven to North London holding a six goal advantage over their Dutch oppoenents. The first leg of this Champions League last 16 tie saw Arsenal run riot in the Philips Stadion with Arsenal winning 7-1.

The Gunners had six different scorers on the night, temporarily putting the stiker question to bed, whereas PSV continued their poor run of form since the turn of the year, which has heaped even more pressure on manager Peter Bosz.

The tie is seemingly already over, with Arsenal’s lead looking unassailable. However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was not getting carried away with the win in his press conference after the game, insisting that “there’s still a job to do in London in a week's time.”

Arsenal team news

Arsenal go into the game against PSV having welcomed back Gabriel Martinelli against Manchester United on Sunday. The Brazillian’s return is welcome for Arsenal as it gives them more options upfront. Bukayo Saka is still missing, along with Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Riccardo Calafiori started at left-back on Sunday instead of Myles Lewis-Skelly. After Lewis-Skelly was taken off at PSV in the first half to protect the player from getting sent off, Arteta will have a decision as to who to start on Wednesday night.

With such a lead in the tie, Arteta may let some of the lesser-seen players have a run out and some players who need more minutes in their legs.

PSV team news

PSV ended a run of three straight defeats against Heerenveen on the weekend, a match that saw Sergino Dest make his long-awaited return to the pitch. Dest has been out of action for almost 11 months after suffering an ACL tear in April last year.

Dest’s USMNT teammate Malik Tillman remains sidelined, along with Ricardo Pepi and Esmir Bajraktarevic. Former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez cannot play in the competition as he was signed after PSV’s Champions League squad was confirmed. Perez left the Gunners in 2018 and has been to several teams before signing for PSV in February.

Head-to-head record

This is the third season in a row that Arsenal and PSV have met in European competitions. They were in the same Champions League group last season and in the same Europa League group the season before.

Arsenal have a favourable record in these fixtures, with five victories in the 11 games they have played each other. Arsenal are unbeaten against PSV at home, winning three of the five games they have played.

The 7-1 victory inflicted on PSV by Arsenal in the first leg was the first time an away team has scored seven goals in a Champions League knockout tie, and the heaviest defeat a Dutch side has ever had in the competition.

Odds for Arsenal v PSV

After such a comprehensive victory, Arsenal are firm favourites to win this game and progress to the next round to play the winner of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Despite the big victory in midweek, Arsenal struggled to socre against Manchester United on the weekend, coming from behind to draw 1-1 against the Red Devils.

PSV managed to get back to winning ways against Heerenveen after three losses in a row. The reigning Dutch champions will be hoping to at least perform better than they did in Eindhoven last week when they are welcomed to the Emirates on Wednesday.

Bet365 have Arsenal down at 2/5 to win the game, with PSV 6/1 outsiders and a draw down at 4/1.
