After producing one of the greatest matches in Champions League history last week, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain prepare to re-commence their semi-final battle at the Allianz Arena.

Last Tuesday’s thriller in the French capital was decided by the odd goal in nine, as the hosts ran out 5-4 winners following 90 minutes of pulsating action.

Harry Kane broke the deadlock early on at the Parc des Princes, clinically converting from the spot after Willian Pacho hauled down Luis Díaz in the penalty box. It took just seven minutes for PSG to respond through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who burst forward in trademark fashion before curling a fine effort beyond a helpless Manuel Neuer.

The Parisians then went ahead thanks to João Neves’ perfectly executed header, but were pegged back by yet another Michael Olise thunderbolt just before the interval. However, the first-half drama wasn’t quite finished. A somewhat harsh handball call against Alphonso Davies led to the evening’s second penalty award, which Ousmane Dembélé fully exploited to put his team back in the driving seat.

A breathtaking opening 45 minutes was followed by a chaotic start to the second, as a further four goals were scored in quick succession. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé completed their respective braces before the hour mark with a couple of near-post finishes, but Dayot Upamecano flicked home Joshua Kimmich’s teasing centre to reduce the arrears.

Luis Díaz then completed the scoring in the 68th minute, slamming home from 13 yards to make it 5-4 on the night. The Colombian’s strike was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR intervened to ensure his scintillating attacking performance was rewarded with a goal.

Wednesday’s meeting in Bavaria will be televised exclusively live on TNT Sports, with coverage commencing an hour before a 20:00 (BST) kick-off.

Bayern Munich team news

Vincent Kompany almost has a full complement to choose from, but is still without the services of Raphaël Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry

Guerreiro sustained a minor hamstring tear during Bayern’s goal-laden contest with Mainz, but is likely to be available for the final should his team overturn a narrow first-leg deficit. However, the news isn’t as positive for Serge Gnabry. The former Arsenal winger is out for the remainder of the season due to a serious thigh issue, which will unfortunately also cause him to miss this summer’s World Cup.

There’s a question mark over Lennart Karl’s fitness as the teenage playmaker continues to recover from a muscle injury, but fellow youngster Tom Bischof is once again available. Having missed the Bundesliga champions’ previous five fixtures with a calf issue, Bischof featured as an unused substitute against Heidenheim on Saturday afternoon.

Konrad Laimer may be recalled to the starting XI after making a notable impact from the bench in Paris, but Kompany – who rested the vast majority of his first team stars over the weekend – is unlikely to otherwise tinker with the side he selected for the first leg.

Paris Saint-Germain team news

Luis Enrique also fielded a weakened team on Saturday, which undoubtedly contributed to PSG dropping points at home to mid-table Lorient

No less than seven of last week’s starters weren’t involved whatsoever, although one of these absences was enforced. Achraf Hakimi clutched his hamstring in discomfort during the closing stages of the first leg, but soldiered on as PSG were unable to make any further substitutions. It was later revealed that Hakimi would miss around three weeks of action, essentially putting an end to his domestic campaign. Cover will likely be provided by Warren Zaïre-Emery, who has operated as an auxiliary full-back on numerous occasions in recent months.

Ukrainian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was one of the remaining six to sit out, resulting in a rare first-team outing for summer recruit Renato Marin. With second-choice stopper Lucas Chevalier currently nursing a thigh strain, the highly rated teenager was able to register his second start for the club.

Meanwhile, promising attacker Quentin Ndjantou is sidelined with a serious hamstring injury.

Where to watch on TV or live stream?

TNT Sports is currently the United Kingdom’s main home of Champions League football, although this will change when Paramount acquire broadcasting rights to UEFA’s most prestigious club competition from the 2027/28 season.

Those with the required subscription can watch events at the Allianz Arena unfold on TNT Sports 1, or alternatively by signing into the HBO Max app using any compatible electronic device. HBO Max replaced Discovery+ as the official online distributor of TNT Sports content, although this caused minimal disruption given that both of these streaming platforms are subsidiaries of the Warner Bros enterprise. Customers can use their existing Discovery+ login details to access HBO Max.

Head-to-head record

Bayern Munich had won each of their previous five Champions League contests against Paris Saint-Germain prior to their most recent encounter, including November’s 2-1 victory at the Parc des Princes. Two players who scored in last week’s clash also found the net on that occasion, with Luis Díaz claiming a first-half double before a well-timed volley from João Neves ensured a grandstand finish. It was a particularly eventful evening for the ex-Liverpool attacker, who was shown a red card on the stroke of half-time after scything down Achraf Hakimi.

Given the Bavarians’ consecutive run of victories, it’s hardly surprising to note that PSG’s overall record in this fixture is pretty poor. The Parisians have lost nine of their 16 Champions League meetings with Wednesday opponents – no club has inflicted more defeats on them in UEFA’s most prestigious club competition.

Luis Enrique became the fastest manager in history to register 50 Champions League wins thanks to his side’s exhilarating semi-final first-leg triumph, achieving this milestone in just 77 fixtures. That’s three matches fewer than closest rival Pep Guardiola, who ironically surpassed the previous record while in charge at Bayern Munich.
