It would be fair to say that Manchester City came through their first game since the guilty verdict with flying colours.
A 3-0 win at Anfield, handling a white-hot atmosphere, was just the tonic after all of the press and negativity that they, as players, have unfairly faced since the start of the international break.
Wednesday’s Champions League clash with PSG will be their first outing at the Etihad Stadium since the off-field shenanigans unfolded, so expect a fantastic atmosphere and a rapturous homecoming.
And that may well prove definitive against a PSG side that has been far from its dominant best in 2026/27. Riding the Momentum
Not only did Man City come through a trial at Anfield on Sunday, but they played well into the bargain.
Yes, they may have benefitted from Ryan Gravenberch’s red card, but for the final hour they were imperious – firing in 11 shots and scoring three goals. Jeremy Doku made his case to start against PSG with a sparkling cameo, while Erling Haaland inevitably found the net.
PSG are world-class, we know that. But they have shown some vulnerability – losing against Monaco and Lens and dropping points in other Ligue 1 encounters.
They won last season’s Champions League but scarcely qualified through the league phase, so maybe this is a good time to play them.
And you wonder if they’ll walk into a remarkable atmosphere at the Etihad, with City fans embracing the siege mentality after their club was found guilty of 114 financial misplay charges.

PSG have pace and guile to burn via the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and it’s rare that Luis Enrique’s side don’t find the net.
Indeed, they’ve scored two or more in five of their last seven games, and this Cityzens team can be broken through with swift diagonal and vertical passes – a speciality of this versatile PSG outfit.

Busy evening
City’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made six saves against Liverpool on Sunday – and that was without striker Alexander Isak and midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo in the Reds' line-up.
That was partly because Liverpool regularly tried pot shots from long range, but also served as a reminder that the Cityzens can be played through and chances created.
PSG, at their best, are even better in an attacking sense than Liverpool. And it’s possible that they may have to chase the game should City go ahead; at which point, even more shots will rain down on Donnarumma’s goal.
