Arsenal head to Napoli in good spirits and good form. They have won all four games they have played this season across the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. They faced their stiffest test on Sunday when Chelsea came to the Emirates, but the champions of England saw off Xabi Alonso’s men and now carry that momentum to the south of Italy.

Napoli come into this tie in opposite form to their visitors. They may have won on the opening weekend in Serie A, however, since then they have suffered successive losses in the league, most recently to Inter Milan despite being 2-0 up. A break from the league might just be what they need to return to some sort of form, yet that is easier said than done, as last season Napoli finished 30th in the UCL League Phase.

Napoli's will be without their Scottish talisman, Scott McTominay, who is set for a month on the sidelines as he prepares for a minor heart operation to correct a mild arrhythmia. Antonio Vergara took McTominay’s place against Inter, and it will be interesting to see whether he keeps his place or Allegri brings in the experience of Kevin De Bruyne.

Allegri will also be without the central defensive duo of Alessandro Buongiorno and Luca Marianucci, both with long-term knee injuries and Giovane, who has a groin injury.

Right back Jurrien Timbur could be in the squad for the first time this season, as he nears a comeback from his ankle injury that kept him out of the World Cup.
