PSG welcome Bayern Munich to the Parc des Princes in a match between two European heavyweights, who contested the 2020 final, which the Bavarians won. Coming into that game, PSG had never won the biggest prize in European football, but now they are on a quest to defend the title they won so spectacularly last season.

With both sitting at the top of their domestic leagues, this clash is between the best that France and Germany can offer, and should be as exciting as the first game they played against each other this season. That game was also at the Parc de Princes in the UCL league stage, and Bayern were the winners that day, thanks to a Luis Diaz brace. PSG are a lot stronger since that loss, but so are Bayern, setting up this semi-final perfectly.

PSG team news

PSG’s main concern is around their talismanic midfielder Vitinha. The Portuguese star was withdrawn in the first half of the Parisians’ 2-1 defeat to Lyon and has not featured since. He is reportedly struggling with a heel injury, and it is unknown if he will make it to Tuesday’s clash.

In that same game against Lyon, PSG welcomed back Fabian Ruiz to the matchday squad and pitch. He will likely get some minutes against Bayern in his first UCL match since the defeat to Sporting Lisbon in January.

Bayern Munich team news

Bayern head into this game with a slightly depleted front line. Both Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl are suffering from muscle injuries that have seen Karl miss the past five games and Gnabry the last three. Despite the two missing players, Bayern still have enough firepower in its forwards to make the missing players seem minor.

Tom Bischof, Maycon Cardozo and Mike Wisdom are all missing from the UCL squad also because of injuries.

Head-to-head record

PSG and Bayern Munich have faced each other 15 times in the UCL, and nine times across the last nine campaigns. Since the start of the 2017/18 edition, only Real Madrid v Manchester City has been played more times in the competition (13) than this fixture (9).

They already met this season, with Bayern winning 2-1 at the Parc de Princes. The last time PSG beat Bayern was in the Club World Cup last summer, 2-0.

Bayern hold the advantage in recent meetings, winning the last five in the UCL, the longest winning streak a team has achieved against PSG in a major European competition.

Bayern are unbeaten in their last 19 games, having won the last nine in a row. PSG have won their last two, and only lost two in their last 10 (8W).
