PSV have announced they will compensate fans who attend the second leg of their last-16 Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday.

The Dutch side face an almost impossible task of qualifying for the quarter-finals having lost the first leg at the Philips Stadion 7-1 last week.

Goals from Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, Riccardo Calafiori and two from Martin Odegaard gave Arsenal the largest away knockout win in Champions League history.

It was also the biggest defeat for any Dutch side in the competition.

The heavy loss came after PSV suffered shock back-to-back domestic defeats against Go Ahead Eagles that saw them crash out of the Dutch Cup and fall eight points behind Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie.

Around 3,000 away supporters are expected to attend the Champions League tie at the Emirates Stadium, with the total cost of refunding match tickets to be in the region of €200,000 (£168,300).

"After the poor result at home last week, your support and presence are extra appreciated," the club said in an email to fans, as reported by ESPN.

PSV beat Heerenveen 2-1 at the weekend in a game that marked the return of US defender Sergino Dest after an 11-month absence through injury.
