West Brom continued their fine start to the season with back-to-back wins, taking them top of the table after 1-0 triumphs over Watford and Derby.
Pre-season promotion hopefuls Burnley have not fared so well - the Clarets sit in the relegation zone and are one of two teams yet to win a league game this term.
Elsewhere, Norwich have picked up form with two wins in five days to take them back towards the play-off places.
Baggies go top of the table
West Brom endured a rough time last season and only escaped relegation towards the end of the campaign after bringing in former player James Morrison to take charge of the first team.
A brilliant summer recruitment-wise has seen a change of fortune at the Hawthorns, though, with the Baggies reaping the rewards of clever signings and an upturn in form of some key players already at the club.
A reported transfer outlay of around £15 million has seen the arrivals of 10 first-team players - with a clear focus on adding young talent and blending it with a few experienced heads.
Goalkeeper Matt Ingram and fullback Conor Townsend fit the bill of experience, as does Felix Horn Myhre; despite never playing in England, the midfielder has amassed well over 250 senior appearances and featured for the Norwegian national team.
The real excitement comes in the young additions. Nolan Galves, Kareem Tunde, Rabby Nzingoula, Barney Stewart, Brayann Pereira and Toby Collyer have all arrived, and all are aged 23 or younger.
The crown jewel of West Brom's summer recruitment, though, is undoubtedly Chelsea academy star Jimmy-Jay Morgan, aged 20.
Morgan has hit the ground running in the Championship with three goals and three assists in six games so far and is already an integral part of the Baggies' attacking unit.
He played a key role in their two recent wins over Watford and Derby, grabbing the winner against the Hornets and setting up Aune Heggebo's decisive goal against the Rams to send the club top of the league.
Morrison's side have been impressive since the beginning of the campaign and a lot of that is down to Morgan - although plenty can also be attributed to the increase in form of players already at the club.
Defensive duo George Campbell and Nathaniel Phillips have been excellent, as have midfielders Isaac Price, Harry Whitwell and Ousmane Diakite, while Heggebo leads the line superbly.
The likes of Collyer - a Manchester United academy graduate - Tunde, a very highly-rated winger from La Liga, and a currently-injured Mikey Johnston will at some point join the team as well.
All seem genuinely capable of making a big impact for West Brom and while they will encounter some problems by playing such a young team, there appears to be a bright future ahead for the Baggies.
Burnley remain winless
At the other end of the table, Burnley are struggling.
The Clarets are yet to win a Championship game this season, and their only victory of the campaign so far came in the EFL Cup, where they needed penalties to defeat League One club Notts County.
Things are not going to plan under new manager Nicky Hayen and improvement is drastically needed after a 2-1 defeat to Bristol City and a 1-1 draw with Wrexham put the club in the relegation zone.
Burnley were relegated from the Premier League last season and have seen their squad torn apart since, with first-teamers Maxime Esteve, Florentino Luis, Lesley Ugochukwu, Quilindschy Hartman, Loum Tchaouna, Axel Tuanzebe, Jaidon Anthony, Martin Dubravka, Zian Flemming and Lyle Foster all leaving over the summer.
They have also excluded the likes of Marcus Edwards, Bashir Humphreys, Ashley Barnes and Michael Obafemi from their registered squad for the season entirely.
Their squad building has been questionable in terms of incomings, too, with several returning loanees now playing a part alongside a mix of Championship experience, Premier League loans and unknown players from abroad.
Burnley's slow start has put them under the microscope and those new signings are yet to hit the ground running - which needs to change quickly.
There could be a light at the end of the tunnel for the Clarets, though. Some of their arrivals are promising, at least on paper.
Jamie Vardy should provide a source of goals, while Max Alleyne, Largie Ramazani and Anel Ahmedhodzic have all proved that they can compete at Championship level.
Things look bleak for Burnley at the moment, and they need that first win before the international break, or there could be trouble for manager Hayen before he has even been able to really get off the ground.
Norwich back to winning ways
Norwich endured a rocky start to the 2026/27 Championship season but look to be back on track after successive wins over Sheffield United and Birmingham.
The Canaries first defeated the Blades 3-1 thanks to goals from Anthony Musaba, Mohamed Toure and Mathias Kvistgaarden; before winning 2-1 four days later through strikes from Oscar Schwartau and Papa Amadou Diallo.
Philippe Clement has got his team scoring goals - they have bagged the joint-third highest in the division with 10 - and looking like genuine play-off contenders, if they can maintain their form in front of goal.
Their attacking unit is fantastic for the second tier, with the likes of Toure, Musaba, Schwartau, Andre Brooks and Jovon Makama all effective in the opposition penalty area.
Questions remain over their defence; Norwich are yet to keep a clean sheet in any match this season and look to be relying on outscoring their opponents.
That can work well, but their chances of a top-eight finish would seriously improve if they can shore up some of their frailties at the back.
Welington nets screamer for Saints
Southampton will be disappointed to have only drawn 1-1 away to newly-promoted Lincoln, but one positive from the match was the strike from Brazilian left-back Welington.
With the Saints struggling to break down a resolute Imps defence, the 25-year-old took matters into his own hands with an outrageous strike.
Welington let fly from 30 yards out and fired an unstoppable strike into the top corner for just the third goal of his senior career - earning our Goal of the Week!
Bowen excels in West Ham win
Jarrod Bowen netted his fourth and fifth goals of the season (all competitions) in West Ham's 3-2 win away at Bolton, helping the Hammers to their third victory in a row.
The winger earned a 9.0 Flashscore rating as he took his side into the automatic promotion places - the highest rating of any player across last weekend's and the midweek fixtures, which makes Bowen our Player of the Week!
