Match report
Just two wins from nine matches in all competitions (D2, L5) had brought down the mood at Fulham, and back-to-back defeats left their European hopes looking fanciful with two games to play.
Nonetheless, bottom side Wolves represented a winnable fixture on paper, and the Cottagers came close to an early breakthrough when Timothy Castagne’s back-post cross was met by Alex Iwobi, whose side-foot volley was well saved.
At the other end, Mateus Mané rifled an effort that was palmed away by Bernd Leno, shortly before Rodrigo Gomes’ low strike drifted across the face of goal.
In the ascendancy, Wolves profited from a period of dominance when Hwang Hee-chan laid off for Mané to drive in a powerful first-time shot from the edge of the box beyond the reach of Leno.
With hopes of European football slipping away, Fulham responded well and should have been level through Sander Berge, but he could only direct his header from a corner into the ground and over the bar as his search for a first goal for the club continued.
And on the cusp of HT, a misjudged challenge from Mané brought down Castagne in the box, allowing 28-year-old Antonee Robinson to equalise from the spot, rolling in just a fifth club goal of his career and first since 2021.
After the restart, Wolves should have retaken the lead when Yerson Mosquera guided a free header off-target from a corner. Chances had been at a premium after the break, but Wolves couldn’t have come much closer to scoring than when Hwang picked out Adam Armstrong with a disguised ball, which was delicately dinked over Leno and onto the post.
That proved to be the last meaningful action of the game, as Fulham passed up the chance to seal a first-ever league double over Wolves, with speculation over Marco Silva’s future intensifying as his contract runs down.
It’s shaping up to be an underwhelming end to the season for the Cottagers, whose European qualification hopes are all but over, three points adrift in 12th.
A 10th league draw of the season isn’t enough to lift Wolves off the bottom just yet, but with one game to play, they can still avoid the ignominy of equalling a club-record 25 defeats in a single league campaign.
