Liverpool continue to crack down on ticket touts as they issue mass bans this week in what is a ruthless move.
As reported by the BBC and The Athletic, Liverpool have issued 1,114 lifetime bans to supporters and closed 45,000 fake accounts in their latest crackdown on ticket touting, which is illegal in the UK.
Last season, the club issued a record 1,114 lifetime bans following the discovery of mass manipulation of software, which has affected thousands who try to buy tickets in gigantic queues each week.
The BBC reports that investigators for Liverpool also shut down 162 social media group and that the 1,114 lifetime bans represent a huge increase on the 75 imposed across the 2023-24 campaign.
Liverpool have a zero-tolerance approach to ticket touting and bans were handed out for unauthorised selling of season tickets, memberships or hospitality tickets to fans desperate to see their favourite team.
This is Anfield state that “Supporters should be aware that if they are in possession of a ticket that has not been forwarded in line with the club’s terms and conditions, or are present inside Anfield without a valid ticket, they will be ejected by stewards or the police.”
Head of the Football Supporters Association Tom Greatrex told BBC Sport that touting has become endemic for football in the modern day.
"Long-term supporters are finding it impossible to get tickets because of the way they are made available through secondary agencies," he said.
"This is becoming endemic across the game."
