Manchester City have completed the signing of France international Rayan Cherki from Lyon on a five-year deal, it has been confirmed.

Cherki had been linked with a move to Champions League holders, and Lyon rivals, PSG, but he's put pen-to-paper on a contract with City.

The Frenchman, who joins the Citizens for a reported £34 million, is now in a race to get registered in time for the Club World Cup.

That shouldn't be much of a problem, though. Cherki could be in line to make his debut against Moroccan side Wydad AC next week.

“This is a dream for me,” Cherki said in a statement. “Honestly, to be joining a club like Manchester City and have the opportunity to make the next step in my career here is something very, very special."

“I have worked so hard for this all my life. I love this sport, and I can’t wait to develop further here in Manchester with Pep (Guardiola) and his backroom staff," Cherki continued.

“Everyone knows how good City are – they have been so successful for many years now. The responsibility to help the team continue winning is something I want to embrace."

Cherki is City's third signing of the window, following in the footsteps of Algeria's Rayan Ait-Nouri and veteran English goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

After a disappointing 2024/25 season, by their own lofty standards, it's expected Guardiola will look to 'rebuild' City over the summer.
