West Ham United took another important step towards safety, claiming a potentially vital Premier League (PL) point in a London derby goalless draw at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace, who missed the chance to secure three consecutive home wins in all competitions for the first time this season.

Match stats

- Crystal Palace have kept a clean sheet in 12 of their 32 games, only Manchester City (13) and Arsenal (15) have done this more often in the Premier League this season. It was also their sixth goalless draw, the most by any side since Newcastle in 2022/23 (seven).

- West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen made his 250th start for the Hammers in all competitions and 350th career league appearance.

- Palace are undefeated in their last four games in the Premier League, their last longer unbeaten streak was from 19th April 2025 to 27th September 2025, a run of 12 games.

- The result means Burnley will be relegated on Wednesday should they lose to Man City.

Match report

Having advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League, Palace could be forgiven for taking their eye off the ball in the league. However, 13 points from their last seven games heading into this one (W4, D1, L2) suggested that Oliver Glasner’s side were up for the fight in an evenly-matched opening quarter-hour.

Brennan Johnson has struggled to make an impact since joining the Eagles, and his frustrations continued in the first half as he skewed a free header off-target, shortly before whipping a strike wide of Mads Hermansen’s post.

West Ham responded with a positive spell of their own, almost capitalising on a mistimed Dean Henderson punch with a goal-bound Taty Castellanos bicycle kick that was blocked by Maxence Lacroix.

And the best chance of the half arrived just before HT, but Konstantinos Mavropanos couldn’t continue his rich vein of goalscoring form as his towering header was pushed away by Henderson.

Clear-cut chances were at a premium in a combative start to the second period, prompting Glasner into a triple change as the hour mark approached. An increasingly stop-start affair was in need of a spark, but as the contest ticked into the final 15 minutes, the game remained goalless and firmly in the balance.

The home fans were briefly celebrating what they thought was a winning goal when substitute Ismaïla Sarr lashed in on the turn from close range, yet a handball from Jean-Philippe Mateta saw the would-be breakthrough swiftly ruled out.

That proved to be the last major event as West Ham ultimately settled for what could be a very useful point in their bid for PL survival. Nuno Espírito Santo may not have won any of his last six matches against Palace (D4, L2), but he won’t be too perturbed as the Hammers restore their two-point cushion over 18th-placed Tottenham Hotspur with five to play.

Meanwhile, Palace miss the chance to register three H2H wins on the bounce for the first time in their history.

However, it won’t concern the Eagles’ fans too much, as they sit firmly in midtable, with a shot at Europe still possible and well clear of relegation, which is now officially confirmed for bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
