Aberdeen v Rangers: Scottish Premiership predictions, best bets and odds

Being pushed to extra time, and then losing on penalties on Thursday evening in their Conference League qualifier against Jablonec was not in the script for Rangers, who could have done without the exertion.

That might offer an opportunity for Aberdeen, but their recent record against the Gers is diabolical. Since the start of 2025, they’ve lost five of their six meetings in all competitions, drawing the other, and failed to score in four of those clashes.

It’s a game that Rangers are favourites for and rightly so, but punters may be minded to find value elsewhere all the same.

In on the act

Rangers have scored at least two goals in all six of their most recent meetings with the Dons.

And in seven games this term across the Scottish Premiership, League Cup and continental competition, Rangers have scored in six of them.

So Derek McInnes has retained their threat in front of goal, however the Glaswegians have shown defensive vulnerabilities as a counterpart – they’ve conceded at least once in six of those outings as well.

Both teams to score is already beginning to formulate as a betting option here, and we expect Aberdeen to be able to hold up their end of the bargain.

They put two past Hearts on the opening day of the Premiership campaign, creating a healthy 2.66 xG along the way, and despite drawing a blank against Dundee next time out, they then rectified that against the same opposition in the League Cup in a 3-0 thrashing.

Kevin Nisbet has already scored a brace in two of Aberdeen’s three games this term, so he might be the man to find a route to goal against Rangers on Sunday.

The last time these two sides met back in March, Aberdeen created two ‘big chances’, as per the official definition, so we can be confident that they will at least have opportunities to find the net against the Gers.

Goals, goals, goals?

Sometimes, the Over 2.5 Goals market can be a logical extension when backing both teams to score.

All of the reasoning from the previous section holds true, with the requirement that at least one extra goal needs to be found.

In the six head-to-head meetings since the start of 2025, there have been at least three goals between these sides in four of those – we’ve actually seen four twice and even five when Rangers blitzed Aberdeen 4-1 back in March.

Past performance does not predict future results, of course, but these are two open sides that have shown a proclivity for goals at both ends of the pitch so far in 2026/27.

We do expect Rangers to enjoy the lion’s share of possession and territorial advantages in this game.

That won’t necessarily manifest itself in corners, but the signs are good. McInnes’ men won 10 corners against Dundee United, seven against Hibernian and eight against St Mirren, with only the sticky Conference League games against Jablonec ruining that fine run.

Aberdeen, meanwhile, have yielded six, five and ten corners within their last three outings, with the six and 10 coming on home soil at Pittodrie.
