Result - Rangers win

I'm picking sides for my opening bet, taking Rangers to get their first league win at the second time of asking.

New Gers manager Derek McInnes began his reign with a disappointing 1-1 draw at Tannadice, needing a second-half 'Goal of the Week' from Thelo Aasgaard to rescue a point. Many fans were unhappy, believing the squad was no better than last term, despite another summer overhaul. The majority of the 50,000+ inside Ibrox on Sunday demand much better.

McInnes asks his recruits to defend aggressively, stamping out trouble before it reaches their box. They allowed just three shots on target last week, and Lachlan Rose's goal was avoidable. Despite the result and two points dropped, Rangers did look better at the back than they have been in a while, and will only improve with fitness and match sharpness.

The game plan from McInnes on Sunday will be to protect the ball, stretch Hibs across the open spaces at Ibrox, move it wide, and get crosses into the box. A big and powerful attack, including Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi, and Youssef Chermiti, will then push to score goals.

Hibs lost 2-1 at home to Motherwell in week one, scoring a second-half penalty before conceding late. Despite playing at home, David Gray's team finished with just 48% of possession. If they allow Rangers to keep the ball, the Light Blues are good enough to make them pay, just as the Steelmen did.

The head-to-head stats at Flashscore show these teams met five times in the league and cup last season, with Rangers winning three and drawing one.

Tip: Rangers win @ 1/2 (bet365)

Bet explanation: If Rangers beat Hibs on Sunday, you'll make a profit.

Both teams to score - Yes

Moving to my second pick, and we're taking both teams to score at Ibrox.

The same bet landed last time, when Hibs shocked the hosts and then manager Danny Rohl with a 2-1 away win. Martin Boyle scored early, and Dane Scarlett late to silence the famous old stadium. You may remember that Rangers' season fell apart down the home straight.

Backing both teams to score would've boosted your betting balance in the two clubs' opening games. Rangers drew 1-1 at Dundee United on Friday, before Hibs lost 2-1 to Motherwell on Sunday. I expect to see a few more goals scored this time, and even more talking points.

Another thing to consider is that both Rangers and Hibs were involved in European action on Thursday, with Rangers in Poland, and Hibs hosting Shkendija, the Macedonian First League runners-up.

I expect a few tired legs in both camps, and with Rangers still low on numbers at the back, but eager to score goals and get the fans onside early, I'm happy to trust BTTS. The locals will dominate possession, but can never be fully trusted in defence. The visitors have pace on the counter, but look unconvincing when defending their goal, especially under pressure.

Tip: Both teams to score @ 4/6 (bet365)

Bet explanation: You need Rangers and Hibs to score at least one goal each in Sunday's late afternoon kick-off.

First scorer - Shankland

As is often the case, my third and final pick has the highest odds attached of the three selections. We're backing Rangers number seven, captain, and summer arrival Lawrence Shankland to open the scoring.

The 30-year-old striker from Glasgow signed for his boyhood heroes on a free transfer from Premiership runners-up Hearts. Derek McInnes and Cammy Devlin also made the switch.

Shankland was unlucky not to get off to a stunning start last Friday, seeing a cute flick saved by Dundee United stopper Jack Walton. Signing and captaining his favourite club is one thing, but the 6'1" striker has been brought in to score goals, and he'd love to send the fans wild with an early strike.

You can back Shankland to score anytime during this match at 4/6, but I'm expecting Rangers to go on the front foot from the first whistle. Shankland will get plenty of service, and his positioning means he'll have opportunities to find the net and bring some much-needed calm to the occasion.

Did you know that Shankland scored 24 goals in 40 appearances for club and country last season, including one for Hearts against Hibs?

Tip: Shankland to score first @ 11/4 (bet365)

Bet explanation: The time of the goal isn't important with this bet. You need Shankland to score the first goal of the afternoon.

Rangers v Hibs odds

Rangers win @ 1/2 (bet365)

Draw @ 10/3 (bet365)

Hibs win @ 19/4 (bet365)
