St Mirren v Celtic: Scottish Premiership predictions, best bets and oddsFlashscore

St Mirren have been one of the surprise packages of the Scottish Premiership season so far, producing some excellent performances on their way to a four-game unbeaten run. But can they extend that streak on Sunday against the league leaders, Celtic? Football betting writer Richard Trenchard delves into the data to find out…

Having needed to win the play-off to stave off the threat of relegation last term, very little was expected of St Mirren this term.

But Craig McLeish has completely altered the trajectory of the Saints, who head into Saturday’s clash on the back of a run that reads W3 D1 L0, with three clean sheets.

Celtic will provide the sternest test of their credentials so far, however, so can St Mirren rise to the task… or will the Hoops maintain their 100% winning start to the domestic campaign?

Good Value

The bookmakers are switched on to St Mirren’s uptick in fortune so far this season, which conversely manifests itself in Celtic being available at a value price to win this game.

The Bhoys have beaten the Saints in all five of their Premiership meetings since the start of 2025, keeping a clean sheet in four of them.

History is there to be rewritten, of course, and this St Mirren side certainly looks capable of sustaining their excellent start to the campaign.

But it is hard to overlook their 1-5 mauling at the hands of Rangers, albeit in the League Cup, which suggests that when they step up to face Scotland’s premier operators, they may well still come unstuck.

Celtic romped into a 3-0 lead over Aberdeen in the first half of their clash on Wednesday, before taking their foot off the gas in the second period – otherwise, they might have racked up a cricket score.

Martin O’Neill was able to substitute the likes of Benjamin Nygren and Camilo Duran early, which suggests they’ll be fit and firing once more come Saturday.

St Mirren will give it a good go… but Celtic have to be a worthy favourite to win, don’t they?

Tip: Celtic to Win @ 12/25 (Bet365)

Explanation: Our bet lands if Celtic win the game.

A Solid Base

Even if the midst of their doldrums, St Mirren have been competitive against Celtic of late.

Although the Bhoys have beaten the Saints in their last five Premiership meetings, each of the last three of those has ended in a 1-0 scoreline.

Central to St Mirren’s success so far this term has been the organisational prowess of McLeish, who has guided his men to three clean sheets in their four league outings to date.

That is a solid platform to build on, and the hectic nature of Celtic’s workload – they play again on Wednesday – suggests that O’Neill may look to rest key players… or at least substitute them early on Saturday.

So, it's not impossible to imagine Celtic taking the lead against St Mirren and then managing the game from there – a pattern of play that could lend itself perfectly to this Under 3.5 Goals selection.

Tip: Under 3.5 Goals @ 4/6 (Bet365)

Explanation: Our bet wins if there are three or fewer goals in this game.

Following the Trend

The total corners count in each of St Mirren’s four Premiership outings to date reads 14-7-14-10.

As for Celtic, that same form line reads 13-12-9-20.

Past performance does not always predict results, as we know, but this selection of Over 9.5 Corners looks to be fair game based on those numbers – it would have landed in six out of eight games combined thus far.

Celtic’s open style of play has enabled their opponents to win a handful of corners in each of their games, and remember that this is a St Mirren side that is brimming with confidence right now. Hopefully they are going to play their part in an entertaining, end-to-end contest.

Tip: Over 9.5 Corners @ 4/7 (Bet365)

Explanation: We need there to be 10 or more corners in the match for this bet to land.
