Argentina struggled to eliminate Cape Verde in the previous round. The small island nation in West Africa scored twice but were eventually knocked out. Their next opponents are Egypt, who have also shown their quality this summer. However, the Pharaohs are unlikely to be a match for Messi and his teammates.

Argentina will look to improve on the performance they produced against Cape Verde. Scaloni is unlikely to shy away from making changes and the team should line up differently against Egypt. An early exit for the Albiceleste would be a huge shock at the World Cup.

These two teams have only met on two previous occasions, with Argentina winning both fixtures. The last meeting was in 2008, and ended 2-0. The other match was in 1928 and ended in a 6-0 thrashing.

Argentina and Egypt will face off in Atlanta for a place in the quarter-finals. Argentina are favourites, but anything can happen in football. It seems likely that both of these teams will score on Tuesday evening.

Scaloni's side struggled to contain Cape Verde, conceding twice and failing to dominate possession towards the latter stages of the contest. Egypt have more talented players than Cape Verde, so Argentina will have their work cut out.

Egypt have reached this stage having conceded at least one goal in every match.

Aside from Messi's contribution, Giovani Lo Celso, Lautaro Martínez, and Lisandro Martínez have all netted one goal a piece and the Argentinians profited from Diney's own goal in the previous round. Lo Celso scored from a free kick, while Lautaro Martínez converted a penalty. Only one of Argentina's goals from open play was not scored by Messi.

For the match against Egypt, Argentina are clear favourites. If they can perform at the level they're capable of, Messi is likely to be on the scoresheet. The most prolific goalscorer in World Cup history, the diminutive Argentinian is likely to find the net again.
