As per The Athletic, FIFA has launched an investigation after an alleged incident of racist abuse involving the American YouTuber and streamer, who has more than 50 million YouTube subscribers, 45 million Instagram followers and 47 million on TikTok.
During Argentina's dramatic 3-2 victory over Cape Verde, Speed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr, noticed several supporters making gestures towards him.
One of the fans appeared to be making "monkey" gestures at him as Speed stepped away, shaking his head. FIFA has since responded, announcing that they will investigate the incident.
“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms.
“FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina v Cabo Verde match on July 3rd, 2026, and immediately initiated an investigation.
“The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.”
The incident comes after Kylian Mbappe was also targeted with a racist attack from Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla following the nation's defeat to France.
The French football federation (FFF) has announced plans to file criminal charges, describing Amarilla's remarks as "utterly abhorrent and unacceptable".
