Scotland stand on the brink of qualification to the knockout round of the 2026 World Cup as they face the 2022 semi-finalists Morocco.

Having beaten Haiti, a point should be enough to see the Scots progress. With this World Cup taking the eight best third-placed finishers, there is even a chance that they have enough already to qualify, but Steve Clarke and his men know better than to already think they are safe.

Morocco will be buoyed after their draw against Brazil. It was a hard-fought point earned by the Atlas Lions, who will be looking to get into winning ways against a team ranked 35 places below them.

Scotland team news

Scotland had John McGinn to thank for their victory against Haiti. The Aston Villa man was in great form as the Premier League season ended, and he has brought that to the USA. McGinn has now scored 21 goals under manager Steve Clarke for Scotland, which is the joint most goals scored by a player under a single Scotland manager, along with Denis Law under Ian McColl (21 in 21 games).

Ben Gannon-Doak took many plaudits from that first game, too, bursting down the wing at any chance he got, taking on the opposition. Another performance like that from him will be needed come Friday.

Scott McTominay recovered from a stomach bug to play against Haiti, and with the effects of that all gone now, the Napoli man may take his game to another level. Scott McKenna was the only other worry before the Haiti game, and he has now all but recovered from the knock that kept him on the bench.

Morocco team news

Morocco came through their tie against Brazil unscathed, so they will likely name the same team. Ismael Saibari got the goal for the current AFCON champions, and news broke this week that he will be moving to Bayern Munich, too, from PSV. That goal was his third in his last three games, showing his importance to his country.

Achraf Hakimi had another stellar showing for Morocco. Against Brazil, Hakimi had the joint most shots (3) and also led all of his teammates for chances created (3), duels won (11), tackles (6), and fouls won (5). He was the first defender to achieve all of those totals in a FIFA World Cup match on record since 1966.

Morocco predicted lineup v Scotland, (4-2-3-1)

Coach: Mohamed Ouahbi

Where to watch?

In the UK, this match between Scotland and Morocco will be shown live on ITV (STV in Scotland). The match will also be able to be streamed through ITVX.

Head-to-head record

Scotland and Morocco have only met once, and that was in the group stages of the 1998 World Cup, where Morocco won 3-0, their largest World Cup victory to date.

Morocco have only lost one of their last six World Cup group matches against European opposition (W2, D3), a 1-0 defeat against Portugal in 2018.

Scotland are looking to win consecutive games in a single major tournament for the very first time, as the Scots have never won more than one game in a single tournament.

Odds for Scotland v Morocco

Morocco are favourites to win, coming in at 8/11 at bet365. A Scotland win is at 4/1, with a draw at 13/5.

Odds correct at time of writing, subject to change.
