The world’s best golfers are set to contest the 108th edition of the PGA Championship, which will be hosted at Pennsylvania’s Aronimink Golf Club later this week.

After claiming his second consecutive green jacket last month, Rory McIlroy is in confident spirits heading into the weekend. The Northern Irishman has won the PGA Championship on two previous occasions, although the most recent of these triumphs came over a decade ago.

Aronimink last staged this tournament back in 1962, when the legendary Gary Player secured the third of his nine majors. The platinum-rated course also held the 2020 Women’s PGA Championship, which saw South Korean star Kim Sei-young prevail thanks to a stunning four-round score of 14 under par. However, it’s been almost eight years since a PGA Tour event was held here, following the 12th instalment of the BMW Championship in September 2018.

No player has lifted the Wanamaker Trophy on more occasions than Jack Nicklaus, who has five replicas of that particular piece of silverware in an overflowing personal trophy cabinet. The American icon also recorded four second-placed finishes in this competition, achieving a level of consistency that most players can scarcely imagine. Walter Hagen is also a five-time PGA Championship winner, but his overall performance record isn’t quite as strong.

In the notes below, we’ve outlined everything you need to know about the 2026 PGA Championship.

PGA Championship 2026 – Key information

Dates: Thursday, May 14th – Sunday, May 17th

Venue: Aronimink Golf Club, Newtown Square (PA)

2025 winner (score/venue): Scottie Scheffler (-11/Quail Hollow)

Favourites: Scottie Scheffler: 21/4, Rory McIlroy: 39/4, Cameron Young: 13/1

Tournament schedule

As is the case with most high-profile golf tournaments, the PGA Championship unfolds over a four-day weekend. Participants play one round per day from Thursday to Sunday, resulting in a 72-hole aggregate score. The progressive leader is likely to change on numerous occasions throughout, but the player ranked first at the conclusion of the fourth day of action is crowned champion.

Although the competition doesn’t formally commence until Thursday’s opening round, the PGA Championship is a week-long event. Spectators have been able to access the Aronimink Golf Club since Monday, providing them with an opportunity to enjoy a range of interactive activities.

By attending the free swing analysis workshop, amateur enthusiasts can compare their technique to PGA Tour professionals and learn how to make improvements. After perfecting their swing, visitors may want to take advantage of the venue’s Putting AR experience. This system leverages augmented reality to map and share information about the contours of a green, enabling the user to better gauge the required pace and direction of their putt.

There are also several premium on-site bars, while sponsors of the tournament are running complimentary prize giveaways throughout the week.

Players will also be in attendance at the beginning of the week, as they familiarise themselves with the course layout. There are plenty of practice rounds taking place between Monday and Wednesday, so spectators will have a chance to see their heroes in action ahead of Thursday’s opening tee times.

Following the first two rounds of action, the 158-strong field is cut down. The top 70 players will advance to the final 36 holes, but the remaining participants are eliminated. It’s impossible to determine what minimum score will be required to progress to the third round, although it’s likely to be just over par.

As America’s Armed Forces Day falls midway through the tournament, this occasion will be marked by several commemorative events. In addition to a rendition of the national anthem and the hoisting of the colours, there will be a ceremonial flyover from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Where to watch on TV or live stream?

Viewers in the United Kingdom are able to watch every minute of the PGA Championship on Sky Sports, who hold exclusive television rights for the vast majority of golf’s premier events.

Thanks to a recent extension to their existing broadcasting deal with the PGA Tour, the network will continue to screen the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, every FedEx Cup and LPGA Tour event, the Players Championship, and the Tour Championship. Sky Sports also provides comprehensive coverage of the DP World Tour and Ladies European Tour.

This week’s tournament will be primarily shown on Sky Sports Golf, although key periods of the tournament are set to be screened on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports UHD. Please note that only customers who have purchased the required subscription can access Sky Sports UHD, which utilises 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos surround sound to provide an enhanced viewing experience.

Prize money

The prize fund for the 2026 PGA Championship is yet to be announced, with organisers expected to remain tight-lipped until Saturday. However, we can assume this year’s purse will be similar to the record-breaking amount paid out in 2025.

Last year’s champion Scottie Scheffler earned a cool $3.42m for his heroic efforts at Quail Hollow, a figure that represented 18% of the total rewards pot. The tournament’s three runners-up – American trio Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, and Davis Riley – received an equal split of $6.15m.

The PGA Championship have offered increasingly lucrative rewards throughout its existence, but this trend seems to be intensifying with every passing year. The winner’s allocation exceeded $2m for the first time in 2021, when Phil Mickelson became the oldest champion in the tournament’s history by registering an overall score of six under par at Kiawah Island. Not even a decade prior to Mickelson’s landmark triumph, the total prize fund stood at less than half of 2025’s equivalent figure.

PGA Championship 2026 – Favourites

The usual suspects are amongst the bookmaker’s favourites to prevail in Pennsylvania this weekend, but plenty of other players will believe they can challenge for the title. The top three favourites reflect the current WGR world rankings, with Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Cameron Young all attracting low prices. Here’s an overview of the current odds:

Scottie Scheffler: 21/4 (bet365)

Rory McIlroy: 39/4 (bet365)

Cameron Young: 13/1 (bet365)

Scottie Scheffler

After recording four top ten finishes in his first five appearances at the PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy aloft in 2025. Having also won the Masters twice and last year’s Open Championship, the 29-year-old star will be hoping to complete the Grand Slam at next month’s U.S. Open.

Rory McIlroy

Almost eleven years have passed since his last PGA Championship triumph, but Rory McIlroy is understandably expected to challenge for silverware this weekend. After ending his eternal wait for a first victory at Augusta, Wee-Mac secured a second Masters title last month as he continues to enjoy a blistering spell of form. It’s also worth noting that McIlroy holds the record for the greatest winning margin in the PGA Championship stroke play era, finishing a staggering eight shots ahead of second-placed David Lynn in 2012.

Cameron Young

Although yet to win a major, Cameron Young demonstrated his immense potential at this season’s Players Championship. The gifted New Yorker emerged triumphant in Florida following an epic battle for supremacy, which saw him shrug off a series of elite challengers to scoop the top prize at TPC Sawgrass. Young’s best performance at the PGA Championship came in 2022, when he finished third alongside Chilean talent Mito Pereira. He’s struggled since then, missing the cut three years ago before failing to break into the top 40 in either 2024 or 2025.
