As promised by Florentino Pérez during the presidential elections, this Tuesday, June 9th, he would make the biggest offer in the history of the club, 150 million euros.
Speculation immediately began, although he himself ruled out Erling Haaland or Michael Olise. The names of Vitinha and Joao Neves, both from PSG, also surfaced as possible candidates, but in the end, after several rumors, Alvarez was chosen.
"Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following today's Board of Directors meeting, it has made an offer of €150 million to the Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julián Álvarez," they said in a statement.
"After reviewing and considering the offer, Club Atlético de Madrid thanked Real Madrid for the proposal, which was made in the context of the good relationship between both clubs, but have rejected it, referring to the player's release clause."
The striker, who is currently with the Argentine national team preparing for the World Cup, has been a target for Barcelona for several months, which even led Atletico to publicly complain about this 'flirtation' with their star player.
On this occasion, the La Liga club has not commented on the formal offer launched by its neighbor and eternal rival.
