Shaun Murphy upset Mark Selby on Saturday night to reach the final of the British Open in Cheltenham, while Anthony McGill overcame John Higgins.
Murphy dominated from the outset, seizing the initiative from the off and denying defending champion Selby any chance to settle into his trademark tactical rhythm.
Selby, normally one of the game’s great match players, briefly threatened a fightback with a break of 123 in the fourth frame, but the comeback never materialised as Murphy swept through at 6-1.
In the other semi-final, McGill beat his fellow Scot Higgins 6-3 in a rousing comeback, recovering from 3-2 down.
McGill punished a series of uncharacteristic errors from the four-time world champion and produced breaks of 104 and 93 in the closing frames to seal the win.
The final pits two players looking to revive careers that had drifted, Murphy chasing a 13th ranking title and McGill his third.
