The Netherlands' 2026 World Cup proved to be a disappointment, with Oranje crashing out to Morocco in the round of 32. This is how the tournament unfolded for them.

The Netherlands' World Cup group opponents

To start their tournament, the Netherlands faced three opponents in their group.

Oranje were drawn into Group F with Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia - a doable, yet tricky group.

Sunday, June 14th: The Netherlands 2-2 Japan - Dallas, TX

Saturday, June 20th: The Netherlands 5-1 Sweden - Houston, TX

Friday, June 26th: Tunisia 1-3 The Netherlands - Kansas City, MO

After drawing their opening match with Japan, Ronald Koeman's side claimed a stunning 5-1 win over Sweden before seeing off Tunisia without too much trouble to top their group, two points ahead of the Japanese.

The Netherlands' Round of 32

Tuesday, June 29th: The Netherlands 1-1 Morocco (2-3 on penalties) - Monterrey, Mexico

Having won their group, the Dutch faced the runners-up of Group C, Morocco, in the round of 32, and were knocked out by the 2022 semi-finalists.

They took the lead through Codt Gakpo, but were pegged back in stoppage time and ultimately lost in a penalty shootout, just as they did in 2014 and 2022.
