Southampton sack Nathan Jones after three months in charge

Southampton have sacked Nathan Jones just three months into his tenure with the club bottom of the Premier League table.

The former Luton manager departs the Saints after a detrimental 2-1 defeat to 10-man Wolves on Saturday.

The Welshman, 49, suffered defeat in eight of his nine league matches in charge, with his sole victory coming against Everton last month.

First-team coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club, while lead coach Ruben Selles will take charge of Saturday's Premier League match at Chelsea.

Southampton appointed Jones in November in place of the departed Ralph Hasenhuttl after leaving Luton in the Championship.

He had a poor start to life on the south coast losing four of his first five matches at the helm, claiming one win in the League Cup against League One club Lincoln.

A better run of form followed with three consecutive wins including a scalp of Manchester City in the League Cup quarter-finals.

But another run of four defeats in five and back-to-back losses in the Premier League proved to be the final straw.
