Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic has hailed his side's tactical discipline after their shock 2-0 Premier League win over Man United on Saturday (August 22).

The newly promoted side were handed a potential baptism of fire in their first game back in the Premier League since the 2016/17 season.

Predictably, Manchester United dominated the game, ending it with 72 per cent possession, 21 shots, five of which were on target, and 41 touches in the Hull box.

Hull were more than a match for Michael Carrick’s side, however, securing a memorable 2-0 win thanks to goals from defenders Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the game, Jakirovic couldn’t hide his joy at seeing everything go to plan.

"It means a lot, we were organised and it was very good for us," he said.

"The players stick to a tactical plan, we suffer because we play against Manchester United but we punished the opponent.

"We are one year together, we had three new guys and all together they looked like a team there and in the end we succeeded."
