Midtjylland are in need of improvements after a slow start to this UEFA Conference League campaign, but face tough opposition here as in-form Ajax come to town.

Match News and Current Form

Midtjylland recovered from two goals down to beat fellow Conference League participants Nordsjælland 3-2 at the weekend, preserving their unbeaten start to the domestic season in the process.  It’s been a different story in Europe though, as while the Wolves have lost just two of their last 12 group stage/league phase games (W7, D3), they’ve picked up just one point this term (D1, L1) and were upset by St Truiden on matchday two (L 1-0). That came on home turf but represents the only defeat Midtjylland have suffered here in their last ten such games (W8, D1), so their fans would be forgiven for expecting a response here.

Four-time European champions Ajax will be no pushovers though, as they’ve won each of their last four matches since losing to Hajduk Split on matchday one. The Dutch giants impressively dispatched Atalanta 2-0 last time out for a third win in their last five matches in major European competition (L2), an impressive sequence given that they’d lost eight in a row prior. Míchel Sánchez now looks to guide Ajax to successive European clean sheets for the first time since November 2024, and can take encouragement from the fact that they’ve been beaten on the road just once since March (W9, D3).

Head-to-Head History

Ajax prevailed in both prior H2Hs, winning home and away against Midtjylland in the 2020/21 Champions League. Danish teams have won just four of their 37 meetings with Dutch opponents in major European competitions (D9, L24) and none of the last nine (D4, L5).

Hot Stats and Streaks

Nine of Midtjylland’s last 11 European home wins were accompanied by a clean sheet.

Midtjylland received a joint-competition low one yellow card across the first two matchdays.

Six of Ajax’s last seven competitive away games saw both teams score.

Ten of Ajax’s last 11 European fixtures produced over 2.5 goals.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Cho Gue-sung scored Midtjylland’s only goal of this league phase and has seen five of his last seven strikes come in European competitions, four of which served as their first goal of the game. Ajax’s Tolu Arokodare started a three-game scoring streak with a goal and an assist from the bench against Atalanta on matchday two, all three of which proved decisive in victory.

Midtjylland look to have no fresh issues, while Ajax’s Julian Brandt is a doubt after being forced off at the weekend.

Betting Analysis

The in-form visitors are understandably favoured, so following trends with an Ajax win and both teams to score could open up more value.
