Whether coincidence or not, James Maddison’s return to the Spurs starting 11 following a lengthy injury absence has brought a considerable uptick in fortunes for the Londoners.
Spurs beat Coventry City 3-1 earlier this month, before an excellent 2-0 victory against rivals Chelsea in which they dominated proceedings, monopolised possession (69%), won the shot count 15-7 and created the game’s only big chance.
Maddison suffered a groin injury against the Blues, so Tottenham fans will be hoping that he can make a swift return.
But even if he doesn’t they face a Crystal Palace side with the worst defensive record in the Premier League – they’ve shipped 19 goals in just eight outings.

Confidence Counts
You could almost see the confidence returning to the flow of the Tottenham players against Chelsea last time out.
Sure, they were ultimately helped by Cole Palmer's red card. But they had taken the lead by that point, and looked like they enjoyed having the ball and recycling possession.
Nobody ‘hid’ and the wide players in particular were willing to run at their man in 1v1 situations – that takes a certain bravery and confidence.
Spurs are a team with a pep in their step… in stark contrast to Palace, who have shipped eight goals in their last three league games.
The loss of Maxence Lacroix and Daniel Munoz in the summer – as well as former head coach Oliver Glasner, of course – has seemingly had a major destabilising effect on the Eagles.
Glasner’s replacement, Pierre Sage, only got his first senior job in management in 2023 – he’s coached Lens and Lyon since, so he is very much learning on the job in a new country.
The danger is that Spurs’s renaissance could be a mere mirage, but the underlying data has been good of late – and Spurs seem to live the challenge Palace offer, winning seven of the last 11 head-to-heads.
Brimming with confidence and with the fans’ faith restored, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be a tough assignment for a downbeat Crystal Palace on a rocking Saturday night.
Tip: Tottenham to Win @ 1/2 (Bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if Tottenham win this game by any scoreline.
Kudos to Kudus
One of the key players in Tottenham’s renaissance has been Mohammed Kudus.
He was arguably Spurs’ best player against Coventry, and had a fine time of things against Chelsea, too.
Crucially, Kudus fired in two shots against both of those opponents, extending his ‘shots form line’ to 2-2-2-2 in his last four appearances.
In football, as a confidence crisis gets deeper so too does the defensive line, so Tottenham could be faced by a barricade of red-and-blue shirts defending their own box on Saturday.
That will test out their creativity… it’s likely that players like Kudus will be compelled to shoot from distance against the deep Palace defence.
Tip: Mohammed Kudus 2+ Shots @ 8/13 (Bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if Mohammed Kudus has two or more shots in this game.
A Busy Evening
Tottenham dominated possession against Chelsea and Coventry, and set up camp in the final third of the pitch. Against the Blues, they played 199 passes in Chelsea’s third compared to defending just 58 in their own.
Given that Palace rank 17th in the Premier League this term for possession, you’d have to imagine a similar pattern will play out on Saturday.
All of which means that Eagles defender Jaydee Canvot could be busy once again. He averages 2.6 tackles per game this season, making two or more in seven of his last nine appearances.
Bet365 have priced Canvot at 8/15 to make 2+ tackles against Spurs, but given that he will likely come up directly against tricky opponents in Omar Marmoush and Kudus, why don’t we take a chance on him to commit one foul or more at a juicier price?
Tip: Jaydee Canvot 1+ Foul Committed @ 8/13 (Bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if Jaydee Canvot commits one or more foul.
