In our preview of that EFL Cup clash, we predicted a Manchester City win and goals aplenty. 

And we were pretty much spot on – albeit the Cityzens needed a penalty shootout to get over the line.

But the 2-2 final scoreline was confirmation of what we expected: these are two teams that are better going forward than they are defensively.

City are now without a clean sheet in five games, conceding two or more in four of those outings. Enzo Maresca will be desperately trying to find a solution to his side’s defensive woes, but this fixture will come round fast and he doesn’t have much time on the training ground.

But Erling Haaland and co continue to liberally find the net – that’s 13 scored in their last five games, so can we expect another entertaining, end-to-end clash against a Brighton team that has conceded two each against the Cityzens and Liverpool in the past week alone?

A Busy Evening

Brighton’s young striker Charalampos Kostoulas is developing into a fine talent.

The 19-year-old Greek hitman has scored three times in seven Premier League outings this term and averages 2.8 shots per game; ranking him just outside the EPL’s top ten for that metric.

So, confidence is not in short supply for the Greece international, who has fired in two or more shots in four of his last six outings.

We’re taking a punt on Kostoulas repeating that feat at the Etihad Stadium. Brighton will surely have some joy in an attacking sense, with Kostoulas the figurehead for much of their best work. 

He was also rested for the EFL Cup game, so should be fit and firing on Saturday.
