Moving into the match-winner market, and I’m taking Rangers to achieve something they failed to do last season: win their opening game.
Rangers performed well in recent friendlies with St-Etienne and West Ham United. The Light Blues aren’t at full speed yet, but they’re moving in the right direction. A settled backline kept out the Hammers last weekend in a friendly with a bit of bite to it.
The visitors have a new goalkeeper, and a couple of new faces across the defence, but they appear well-drilled, fit, and relaxed. That’ll come as no surprise to anyone who has watched a McInnes team in recent seasons, especially Hearts last term.
Tannadice is no easy place to visit, but Rangers haven’t lost here since August 2021. The Glaswegians have left Dundee empty-handed only once since 2012. That trend is too strong to ignore, and I expect the away win to be a popular pick this weekend.
Rangers have a stronger squad and a deeper pool of players than their opponents. They also have that fantastic record, and there’s a buzz of excitement around the team with McInnes finally in charge.
Stats show Gers had 67% of the ball possession on their last visit, and with an improved attack, they’ll turn that into strong chances and goals.

My third and final Dundee United vs Rangers prediction sees us support a player’s performance, rather than a team’s result.
We’re backing Norwegian midfielder and World Cup 2026 star Thelo Aasgaard to score or assist on Friday night.
Aasgaard featured for the Norwegians over the summer, pulling his weight as the Red, White, and Blues reached the quarter-finals.
The 24-year-old midfielder, signed from Luton Town last season, scored against France in a 4-1 defeat at the Gillette Stadium on a day when Ousmane Dembele rifled home a hat-trick.
In the Premiership, Aasgaard was far from reliable, but he did score against Dundee United (twice), Motherwell, St Mirren, Aberdeen, Hibs, and Falkirk.
In Rangers’ last league outing, at the Falkirk Stadium in May, Aasgaard scored from the penalty spot on 79 minutes. In pre-season, he returned from the World Cup to net in that friendly win over St-Etienne.
