France boss Didier Deschamps has denied that Kylian Mbappe acts like a dictator in the France side.

Mbappe sent Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill the wrong way to score his seventh goal of the 2026 World Cup and to send France through to the quarter-final on Saturday night.

The Real Madrid star currently sits top of the Golden Boot race, above the likes of Lionel Messi and Harry Kane, who are hot on his heels.

Mbappe has proven himself to be a leader once more in the French side and despite claims from fans that he rules the side with arrogance, Deschamps has jumped to his defence this week as he stated that he is a real leader.

“You guys make Kylian Mbappe seem like a dictator… the reality is the opposite”, Deschamps said.

“His public image does not reflect reality at all. Kylian has always been mature and the whole team follows him.

“I am so happy to have Kylian as captain. Whenever he speaks on and off the pitch, he represents the whole group.”

France will now face Morocco in the quarter-finals in what will be a rematch of their 2022 semi-final in Qatar, where the French progressed to the final. Mbappe should prove vital once more as he leads the side all the way.
