Two significant milestones were achieved by the hosts early on: with their 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first match, Canada secured their first-ever point at the men's FIFA World Cup.
A few days later, they followed it with a one-sided 6-0 thrashing of Qatar - their first-ever win in World Cup finals history.
Canada ended their group fixtures with a 2-1 loss to Switzerland, meaning they finished the stage in second place in Group B, behind the Swiss.
They progressed to the knockout rounds, where they beat South Africa before going out with a loss against Morocco.

If Canada had finished top of the group, they would have remained in Vancouver for their Round of 32 match. As it turned out, they finished second, meaning they faced the second-placed side from Group A, South Africa.
After beating Bafana Bafana, they fell 3-0 to Morocco in the round of 16, ending their historic run. A strong first-half showing was undone with three second-half goals as Les Rouges bowed out of the tournament.
