The Red Devils will now play Spain in the last eight.

Another defensive mishap, this time from Chris Richards, gives Romelu Lukaku the perfect opportunity to seal their passage into the last eight, and he makes no mistake. The US fans start to leave the stadium, this has been an abject afternoon for the last remaining co-hosts.
03:53 CET - Into four minutes of stoppage time in Seattle, this feels over, all bar the shouting...
03:45 CET - Finally, Folarin Balogun is in the game. He gets down the left-hand side, only to see his shot well saved by Thibaut Courtois. The US are coming.
03:41 CET - Changes aplenty from both sides, as the USA switch to a more attacking formation, but still, they haven't been able to make inroads. They have just over 10 minutes to find something, and one of those subs, Sebastian Berhalter nearly does, firing just wide from 20 yards.
03:32 CET - The energy and life has been sucked out of the stadium as the USA still trail 3-1 and do not look likely to turn this one around.
The whole squad comes together for the second hydration break; whatever Mauricio Pochettino has to say, it better be good.
03:21 CET - Is that the end of the road for the USA? Matthew Freese makes a terrible error by clearing his lines, allowing Charles De Ketelaere to get a touch on the ball before Hans Vanaken shoots from distance to make it 3-1. Tim Ream does his best to get in the way, but it evades him, and his side now have a mountain to climb.
03:17 CET - The crowd are back in this contest after a couple of calls go against the USA, with the referee allowing the game to flow rather than give free-kicks - the intensity from the co-hosts has ratcheted up after half-time, but as of yet, they still haven't created anything concrete.
03:13 CET - A much better start to the second half from the home side, who have had a good spell of concerted pressure for the first time in this game.
Unfortunately for them, the Belgian backline holds firm, and they are unable to break through.
03:07 CET - Back underway at Seattle Stadium for what is a massive half for the USMNT. If they can't find a goal, they will be out of their own tournament.
One change at the break for the co-hosts as Gio Reyna enters the fray in place of Serginho Dest.
02:51 CET - We have made it to half-time in Seattle, where Belgium are 2-1 up against the USA, thanks to a brace from Charles De Ketelaere.
It is what the Belgians deserve, creating four clear-cut chances to the US' zero in the first half. Defensively, the co-hosts have looked far from their best, and have allowed their opponents far too much time to play the key pass.
What changes will we see in the second half?
02:45 CET - First real opening for Folarin Balogun as we approach half-time. A long throw-in from the right falls to the striker, but he can only fire over as he leans back.
02:43 CET - More joy from crosses for Belgium as Dodi Lukebakio heads narrowly wide when left unmarked from a free-kick. The USA need to tighten up otherwise, this could be all over for them on home soil.
02:33 CET - Belgium back in front! Great work from Leandro Trossard down the left as the Arsenal winger picks out Charles De Ketelaere to head home. The striker manages to get above Tim Ream to score - the centre-back will be disappointed he was beaten so easily to the punch.
02:31 CET - Pandemonium in Seattle! Malik Tillman strikes again from a free-kick to level for the USA against Belgium.
Around 25 yards out, he repeats the trick from the Bosnia game, as well as a deflection, to put his side back in the contest.
02:22 CET - A near calamity at the back for Chris Richards, who nearly allows Charles De Ketelaere to nip in and bear down on goal, but the former Bayern Munich man has just enough wit about him to shield the ball and clear away.
We've reached the first hydration break - a good time for Mauricio Pochettino to calm his side down and get them back on the gameplan, because nothing has worked so far for the US.
02:18 CET - A tough start for the USA, who are struggling to match Belgium's tempo and control. Folarin Balogun has been relatively anonymous so far, with just two touches in the opening 18 minutes. Is this too big an occasion for Mauricio Pochettino's side?
02:09 CET - It's been coming; the Belgians have an early lead against the USA. The co-hosts fail to clear the ball, and a cross from Nicolas Raskin, starting in place of Kevin De Bruyne, finds Charles De Ketelaere, who can't miss from a yard out.

The USA have been pressing high up the pitch and forcing Thibaut Courtois into kicking it long. 02:00 CET - Here we go then, time for what has become a powder keg of a game. Can the USA end a run of six games without beating Belgium, a stat that goes back to 1930, or will it be a repeat of their clash in 2014, where Belgium would go on to win in extra time?

01:48 CET - In the last hour, as we get ready for kick off in Seattle, FIFA's disciplinary committee have released a further statement, outlining their decision to suspend the ban given to Folarin Balogun for this match.
In one part they said: "Reviewing the legal consequences of red cards in football is nothing new in the modern game. For instance, in the majority of top-tier leagues belonging to UEFA-affiliated member associations, the overturning of red cards is a common disciplinary measure, yet this has never raised concerns about crossing any 'red line'.
It should be stated, as they do in their statement, that the red card has not been overturned, just suspended. It feels this is not getting clearer, but murkier.
Anyway, time to turn our attention to the pitch.
01:35 CET - The USA starting XI has just been read out by the stadium announcer, with the biggest cheer coming for, you guessed it, Folarin Balogun.
The 25-year-old has scored three times in three starts for his country at this tournament, can he add to that tally today?
01:15 CET - As expected, there is a huge cheer from the USA fans as their team enter the field for warm-ups. The customary 'USA' chant echoes around Seattle Stadium.
01:00 CET - It's been an interesting few hours around the city in Seattle, and it will be a partisan crowd inside the stadium as it continues to fill up. Those who Flashscore asked about the Folarin Balogun situation were relatively nonplussed with it, suggesting that the right decision for him to play has been found in the end.
00:30 CET - Just 90 minutes to go until our second round of 16 clash gets underway in Seattle, where Flashscore's Josh Donaldson is there for us to follow the game.
Josh Donaldson at Seattle Stadium: It's been a wild 24 hours across the world of football after the news broke yesterday that Folarin Balogun had had his one-game suspension for a red card against Bosnia & Herzegovina suspended by an 'independent' FIFA disciplinary committee.
In the intervening day, we've had challenges from the Belgian association, counter-statements from FIFA and Gianni Infantino, as well as a press conference from US President Donald Trump confirming he had been in contact with the FIFA president about the incident.
Mauricio Pochettino called for celebration after the decision, Belgium's Rudi Garcia likened it to April Fool's Day - it's been a circus that has swallowed up this potentially historic day for the USMNT.
Lineups are now in, and Balogun does start for the USA, meaning Belgium's football association are likely to pursue their options around a legal challenge, as they threatened earlier today.
Meanwhile, Garcia has been bold in his team selection. He has left out star man Kevin De Bruyne, as well as Jeremy Doku and Romelu Lukaku from his starting XI. Quite the call ahead of a massive tie.
23:01 CET - Spain are through to the World Cup quarter-finals after a 1-0 win over Portugal!
Mikel Merino is the hero for his nation, coming on late to score the winner with a wonderful finish. They still haven't conceded a goal this tournament, and frankly, Portugal never looked like scoring against them. They were flat, dull, tepid, and Spain controlled this game from start to finish.
Spain go marching on, while Portugal are going home. That is the last we have seen of Cristiano Ronaldo at a major tournament, surely, and perhaps for his country in general?
22:52 CET - MIKEL MERINO MAY HAVE JUST WON THE GAME FOR SPAIN!
The Arsenal man has been brought on as a late sub, and after finding himself through on goal from a Ferran Torres pass, he slotted home fantastically in stoppage time.
22:30 CET - It has been a far more cagey second half and the deadlock is yet to be broken heading into the second hydration break. There has been a big blow for Portugal, though, with Nuno Mendes coming off with an injury.
22:07 CET - Okay, we are back underway for what is a crucial second half at the World Cup.
21:51 CET - It is half time in Dallas, and the game remains goalless. It has been pretty even, but Spain have slightly edged proceedings, with Mikel Oyarzabal missing a huge chance early on. However, Portugal will be pretty content.
21:23 CET - The first hydration break is here, and it has been a very bright start from Spain. Diogo Costa has been busy in goal, making a few saves to keep the score goalless.

19:40 CET - Team news is in from a box-office clash between Portugal and Spain! There has been just one change from either coach, and it is a surprising one as Joao Felix replaces Rafael Leao despite the AC Milan winger getting an assist against Croatia.
18:17 CET - As we edge closer to a blockbuster game between Portugal and Spain, let's take a closer look at arguably the biggest game of the World Cup so far.
Spain are the European champions and favourites given their impressive performances at the World Cup so far. Lamine Yamal is their x-factor and the teenage superstar hasn't even been fully fit so far. He should be close to fully fit by kick-off tonight.
But Portugal have one of the greatest players of all time in Cristiano Ronaldo, and the Al Nassr striker has reminded the world what he is capable of at this tournament, even at 41. Aside from those two superstars who are at opposite ends of their careers, both Spain and Portugal's sides are full of world-class players at the top of the game for club and country.

13:00 CET - Hello and welcome to a fascinating day at the 2026 World Cup! First up is a box-office clash between European champions Spain and Portugal in what feels like the biggest game of the tournament so far.
You have two football heavyweights going head-to-head, as well as a teenage superstar, Lamine Yamal, against a veteran and one of the greatest of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.
That is followed by the co-hosts USA against Belgium, overnight. Mauricio Pochettino's side have been brilliant so far at their home World Cup and will be fancy their chances against a Belgium side who more than rode their luck to beat Senegal in the last-32.
