The 24-year-old had a decent season for his boyhood club, scoring four goals and providing five assists in his 34 games across all competitions.
Easily the most notable of his goals was the opener in Real Sociedad’s penalty win in the Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid.
According to The Sun, Barrenetxea has now caught the attention of North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.
It’s understood Sociedad are determined to keep hold of the winger this summer and are reluctant to budge on his £65 million release clause.
Arsenal currently have no intention of paying that fee and have just entered talks over a move for Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis, per The Athletic.
