As World Cup Qualification (WCQ) Group L nears its climax, third-placed Faroe Islands host second-placed Czech Republic with both teams still in the hunt for a spot at the 2026 finals.

Match News and Current Form

A 4-0 home win over Montenegro on Thursday evening means that the Faroe Islands are still in the hunt for a top-two place in Group L, although those hopes hinge on securing victory here. With two rounds of their eight fixtures to go, the Faroes have already created history by recording three victories (L3) in this WCQ campaign beating their previous best of two wins which all came during ten-match qualifying groups. Another success on Sunday would keep a first-ever World Cup appearance a possibility for Eyðun Klakstein’s side, who have lost only one of their last six home games (W2, D3).

After winning four successive matches from November 2024 to early June 2025, Czech Republic have picked up only one further victory from their last four matches (D2, L1). Their latest result was a goalless draw at home to group leaders Croatia on Thursday which keeps them very much in the hunt for a place at next summer’s finals as they will begin this fixture second by virtue of goal difference alone. Although Ivan Hašek’s team have played one game more than group-topping Croatia, another draw here will guarantee a play-off place, and having lost only one of their last 12 games (W7, D4), few would bet against them securing that here.

Head-to-Head History

The Czech Republic have won all eight previous H2Hs, with seven of those coming with an accompanying clean sheet.

Hot Stats and Streaks

Faroe Islands haven’t conceded after half-time in any of their last five games.

Faroe Islands have kept one home clean sheet since October 2020.

The Czech Republic have conceded a first-half goal in only one of their last 11 matches.

The Czech Republic have failed to score in just one of their last eight away fixtures.

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Árni Frederiksberg contributed to all four of Faroe Islands’ goals on Thursday (G2, A2) and he scored the second goal of the match on both of his international scoring appearances. Lukáš Červ got an assist in the reverse fixture and scored in Czech Republic’s last away match - his two international goals both arrived in the opening 20 minutes, as did his last two goals at club level.

Both teams seemingly got through Thursday’s fixtures without picking up new injuries or suspensions.

Betting Analysis

Faroe Islands tend to be strong defensively after half-time, so we suggest backing a second-half clean sheet for the hosts.
