Barcelona welcome the Birmingham side, who have won all their European matches this season, as one of the teams from the lower pots.

However, the truth is that they are a poisoned chalice, and Hansi Flick's men will need to be at their very best to claim three points that could prove very valuable in their bid to qualify directly for the competition's last 16.

Home wins look crucial in the current format, and Aston Villa are not the only English opponents who will visit Camp Nou.

Barcelona will also host Manchester City, who are, in principle, a much tougher opposition than Villa.

These are two of the competition's four highest-scoring teams so far this season – so fireworks can be expected in front of goal. 

Barcelona have scored in every match this season and were held scoreless in only four official games last campaign.

Villa struggled at the start of the season, but since September 8  have scored in every match apart from their EFL Cup elimination by Bournemouth (3-0).

To make matters even more interesting, Barcelona have not kept a clean sheet in the Champions League since March 2025 – and both teams will also field the best available attacking options for this match.

Barcelona have scored in every half they have played this season, apart from the first half against PSG and the first half of El Clásico.

Therefore, we expect Flick's men to return to scoring in both halves on the European stage.

The match against Real Madrid is the only official home game in which Barcelona have failed to score in both halves.

Emery's side conceded in both halves in the aforementioned defeat by Bournemouth in the EFL Cup, as well as in the only away match they have played in this season's Champions League (3-2 against Club Brugge).
