Barcelona will be looking to take another step towards retaining their LaLiga crown when they visit Getafe at the weekend, but the hosts are also desperate to claim all three points. Currently just outside the European places, Getafe have a chance of qualifying for a major UEFA competition for only the fourth time in their history.

Having only endured one defeat since the beginning of March, Barça are currently in a rich vein of form. The Blaugrana have won each of their last nine La Liga fixtures, catapulting them into a comfortable lead at the summit of the table.

They are also the Spanish top flight’s most prolific scorers by a considerable margin, after finding the net a staggering 85 times in their opening 32 outings.

However, the Catalans’ recent exits from two cup competitions will provide some comfort to Getafe, who will hope to exploit any lingering vulnerabilities.

After being edged out by Atlético Madrid in a titanic Copa del Rey semi-final tie, Barcelona also fell victim to Diego Simeone’s men in last week’s Champions League encounter.

Furthermore, Saturday’s visitors to the Estadio Coliseum have dropped points at away venues on five occasions this season, despite boasting a perfect home record.

Following a nightmare festive period, Getafe have also enjoyed a run of extremely positive results. The Azulones only mustered three points during the whole of December and January, but have since won seven of their last ten La Liga contests.

The other three results in this sequence were all narrow 1-0 defeats, indicating José Bordalás’ side have remained competitive throughout this entire period.

UK viewers can watch live coverage of this keenly anticipated clash on LaLiga TV, with kick-off scheduled for 15:15 (BST).

Getafe team news

José Bordalás is unable to call upon the services of several key first-team players, but will be buoyed by the return of imposing centre-back Domingos Duarte.

The Portuguese ace received his tenth yellow card of the campaign during Getafe’s eventful 1-0 loss to Levante, resulting in him being suspended for the midweek trip to the home of Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad

Zaid Romero was also punished at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, but was issued a red card after committing two bookable offences.

Following his decision to reprimand Romero for handling the ball in the box, referee Alejandro Quintero González was subjected to a verbal tirade from the Argentinian defender as he exited the field.

Consequently, Romero was handed a three-match ban and is therefore still unavailable to play at the weekend.

There is still no sign of Juanmi, who is currently struggling with a muscle strain. The versatile attacker hasn’t started a single LaLiga fixture since making his loan move from Real Betis permanent in the summer, last appearing as a second-half substitute against Valencia at the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile, Borja Mayoral remains absent after undergoing surgery in December. Having sustained a meniscus tear just over two years ago, this isn’t the first time the Spanish striker has been plagued by a serious knee injury.

David Soria saved two penalties in the aforementioned clash with Levante, so expect Getafe’s first-choice stopper to be in confident mood on Saturday afternoon.

Barcelona team news

Although he doesn’t quite have a full complement at his disposal, Hansi Flick only has a few injury headaches to contend with.

As a result of pulling his hamstring during the last international break, Brazilian winger Raphinha hasn’t featured since Barcelona’s 2-1 triumph over Atlético Madrid in early April.

Frenkie de Jong and Alejandro Balde are also carrying hamstring issues, but both players have almost completed their respective rehabilitations.

Balde made his first start since the end of February in the recent 4-1 hammering of local rivals Espanyol, while Dutch midfielder de Jong has featured as a late substitute in each of Barcelona’s last three fixtures. Marc Bernal remains sidelined with an ankle sprain.

There is still no sight of Andreas Christensen, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a routine training session just before Christmas. The Danish defender may have played his last game for the club, but remains hopeful a new deal can be thrashed out before his contract ends in the summer.

Where to watch on TV or live stream?

Saturday afternoon’s contest at the Estadio Coliseum will be shown exclusively live on LaLiga TV, which is available to UK residents via the Premier Sports app.

Customers have access to La Liga TV as part of their standard Premier Sports package, although the Spanish top-flight’s dedicated channel is available to watch for a standalone monthly subscription fee.

It’s also worth noting that Disney+ streams a live LaLiga fixture every Saturday evening, after the network agreed a lucrative three-year broadcasting deal ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Head-to-Head record

This season’s first meeting between these two teams saw Barcelona run out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, thanks to a first-half brace from Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo’s right-footed strike just after the hour mark.

Getafe haven’t beaten Barça since the early stages of the COVID-impacted 2020/21 campaign, when Jaime Mata converted a penalty past Brazilian ‘keeper Neto to hand the hosts a 1-0 victory at an empty Estadio Coliseum.

However, the Madrileños have managed to avoid defeat in each of their last four home clashes with Saturday’s visitors, with three of these fixtures concluding as goalless draws.
