Manchester City vs Ipswich Town: Premier League predictions, bets and odds

Enzo Maresca will want an immediate response from his side, and a visit from Ipswich Town offers a very favourable chance to deliver one.

City's win at Liverpool last weekend kept them on course for something historic, as only twice in Premier League history have a side won their first seven matches, and both went on to lift the title.

They've also been near-unbeatable against promoted opposition, winning 28 and drawing three of their last 31 such matches in the league, and have won all 16 of their home games against newly-promoted sides since losing to Leeds in April 2021.

Ipswich, for their part, have made a dream return to the top flight, already winning three of their first six games, just one fewer than they managed in the whole of their last campaign here.

Each of those wins came courtesy of a goal in the 90th minute or later, but their only away victory so far came against a ten-man Crystal Palace, and a trip to the Etihad is a very different challenge.

City are relentless at home and use their width to stretch teams, winning 11 corners against PSG in midweek, while six of their last seven home league games have produced at least 11 corners in total.

Against a deep-lying Ipswich block, they're likely to go wide and try efforts from distance, both of which regularly lead to corners.

Ipswich themselves have been among the league's least frequent corner-takers, but that's largely because they've spent so much of the season defending, and that will be the case again here. With City expected to dominate territory for long spells, Over 9 corners at 53/100 with Bet365 looks a strong pick.

City have scored 24 goals in their last ten league games and netted a league-high eleven second-half goals this season, while they've scored 53 goals in 16 home games against promoted sides since April 2021. Their last two meetings with Ipswich finished 4-1 and 6-0, an aggregate scoreline of 10-1.

Ipswich have conceded a league-high four goals inside the first 15 minutes this season and have seen 21 goals scored across their last six league games, so there's every chance this turns into a free-scoring afternoon.

Erling Haaland to score

Haaland leads the Premier League scoring charts with six goals this season, and he has a superb record against this opponent, with four goals in two league games against Ipswich, including a hat-trick in his only previous home appearance against them.

He's also scored 20 goals in 21 appearances against newly promoted sides, a ratio bettered only by Alexander Isak and Thierry Henry among players with 10 or more such games.

With Ipswich having kept just one clean sheet in 33 away games against City, Haaland should have plenty of opportunities again. At 11/25 with Bet365, backing him to score looks one of the safest picks on the card.
