Rangers had won seven games on the spin, including two victories over Celtic, so they were well fancied to down Dundee at Dens Park.
But the hosts gave a good account of themselves and arguably created the better of the chances, despite the Gers dominating possession and territory.

Even for that 2-2 setback, Rangers continue to top the Scottish Premiership form table.
And on Saturday, they host a St Johnstone side that often offers a masterclass in the miserly. Their last four outings have ended either 1-0 or 1-1.
Rangers vs St Johnstone: Betting tips

Rangers Goals Range: 1-3 @ 4/9 (bet365)

Entertainment not guaranteed
That Dundee game was the first time since August that Rangers had conceded twice in a single game.
Defensively, they have been rock solid – as you would expect a McInnes side to be, shipping just three goals in their last five games.
It would be a shock if St Johnstone went to Ibrox and tried to attack. They have lost each of their last nine games against Rangers, failing to score in eight of those – an extraordinary head-to-head record.
The Saints’ last five games have witnessed a grand total of just nine goals, while their tally of 12.1xG created in nine outings ranks ninth out of 12 in the Premiership.
Make no mistake, we expect Rangers to win this game. But it might not be a goal-fest, given the defensive strengths of the hosts and the relative attacking paucity of the visitors, so Under 3.5 Goals is the play.
Tip: Under 3.5 Goals @ 4/6 (bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if there are three or fewer goals in the game.
On easy street
Managerial cliché incoming – there are no easy games in football.
But Rangers’ record against St Johnstone – winning nine in a row, with eight clean sheets – suggests the Gers have often been on easy street against the Saints.
If we focus on games specifically at Ibrox, Rangers have won each of their last seven against St Johnstone by a margin of two goals or more.
In those seven outings, the Gers scored two or three goals in six of them. So you can probably guess where we’re going with our next selection…
Nothing much has changed this season for these two sides. Rangers are still a class above most in the division, with plenty of goal threat despite injuries suffered by the likes of Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti.
St Johnstone, meanwhile, have to make the best of things on a tight budget. They are solid and tough to beat, but over the course of 90 minutes you would have to expect Rangers to breach their defences at least once.
Tip: Rangers Goals Range: 1-3 @ 4/9 (bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if Rangers score one, two or three goals.
The corner kings
It’s not always easy to model the corners market in football… it’s not always the most predictable of stats.
But there’s definitely a pattern that follows St Johnstone around when playing teams that are, no disrespect intended, better than they are.
They allow their opponents to dominate the ball and territory, which has seen them yield eight, 11 and 13 corners respectively this term against Hearts, Celtic and Aberdeen.
Rangers like to play the ball into wide areas, allowing Djeidi Gassama and Min-Su Kim to run at their marker, and such is their likely dominance of this contest that we fancy the Gers to win seven or more corners – a bet that would have comfortably landed in those three St Johnstone games noted above.
Tip: Rangers Over 6.5 Corners @ 1/2 (bet365)
Explanation: Our bet lands if Rangers are awarded seven or more corners.
