The 2026 World Cup was held from June 11th to July 19th in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament featured 48 national teams and was played in 16 modern stadiums.

18:12 BST - In England news, Harry Kane says he feels "as good as I've ever felt" as he hunts more World Cup goals to extend his remarkable season.
The captain scored twice on Wednesday as Thomas Tuchel's side came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 and advance to face co-hosts Mexico in the last 16.
Kane's stunning 86th-minute strike took him to 72 goals for club and country in the 2025/26 campaign - second only to Lionel Messi's 82-goal haul in 2011/12.
"This season for me, 72 goals so far and hopefully a few more to go, is I think almost 20 more than I've ever reached in my career to date and I've had some pretty good seasons up until now," the 32-year-old said on England's Lions' Den show.

13:03 BST - The big news of the day is Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has resigned following their stunning World Cup elimination to Paraguay.
Jurgen Klopp is now Germany's prime target to succeed Nagelsmann, having expressed his willingness to take the reins.

12:20 BST - Before that, Spain produced a silky display to dispatch Austria 3-0 and the later game saw Switzerland advance with their first knockout win in 88 years as they beat Algeria 2-0.

11:55 BST - There's only one place to start and that's a revisit of what happened last night as Portugal snatched a 94th-minute winner to beat Croatia and set up a last-16 clash with Spain.
After Cristiano Ronaldo's leveller, Goncalo Ramos came off the bench to head in the winner to break Croatian hearts.
The Portuguese had to survive a 103rd-minute VAR check after Josko Gvardiol scored what he thought to be an equaliser, which was ruled out for offside.

11:00 BST - Good morning! It's the final day of the World Cup's round of 32 as we get deeper into the vital stages of the tournament.
Australia face Egypt in the first match tonight, with the winner of that one playing either Lionel Messi's Argentina or Cape Verde when they clash afterwards.
This part of the knockout stage concludes with Colombia versus Ghana as the final match.
